Discover more about Auditório Ibirapuera - Oscar Niemeyer

The Auditório Ibirapuera, officially named Auditório Ibirapuera - Oscar Niemeyer since July 2014, is a key architectural component of Ibirapuera Park in São Paulo. Designed by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, it was conceived in the 1950s but only built in 2005. The auditorium enhances the park's cultural scene, hosting a variety of musical spectacles and serving as a music school. Niemeyer's design features a trapezoidal white concrete structure with a triangular section, exemplifying his signature modernist style. A prominent feature is the red flame-like sculpture, the 'Labareda,' by Tomie Ohtake, which has become an architectural logo for the venue. The building can accommodate 800 people internally, but when a large 20-meter door at the back of the stage is opened, it expands to hold approximately 15,000 people in the external area. The Auditório Ibirapuera not only serves as a performance space but also houses the Escola do Auditório in its subsoil, aimed at supporting new talent. The foyer includes a winding ramp with a long wooden handrail, leading to the seating area, complemented by Ohtake's sculpture. The venue is equipped with facilities for people with special needs, including elevators, wheelchair spaces, and adapted restrooms.
