Discover more about Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB)

Located in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB) is more than just a cultural center; it's a journey through art, history, and architecture. Housed in a stunning building designed by Francisco Joaquim Béthencourt da Silva, its construction began in 1880 and was later inaugurated in 1906 as the headquarters for the Commercial Association of Rio de Janeiro. In the 1920s, Banco do Brasil acquired the building, transforming it into its headquarters before finally converting it into the cultural center it is today. CCBB occupies 15,046 square meters of the building's total 19,243 square meters, offering a wide array of cultural experiences. Inside, you'll find spaces dedicated to art exhibitions, a cinema, video screening rooms, theaters, an auditorium, and a library. The center hosts a variety of events, including art and photography exhibitions, dance and music performances, lectures, and film screenings. The building itself is a work of art, with its elegant columns, intricate ornaments, and marble staircases. The renovation project in the late 1980s carefully preserved these features, while also redesigning the dome over the rotunda. CCBB is known for its diverse and engaging program, with both temporary and permanent exhibitions. The center also has spaces for theater, cinema, and music performances. In addition to its cultural offerings, CCBB also features a café, bookstore, and restaurant, making it a perfect place to spend an afternoon. According to a survey in The Art Newspaper, CCBB Rio de Janeiro was ranked as one of the most visited art museums in the world.
