Discover more about Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB)

Located in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB) is more than just a cultural center; it's a journey through time and art. Housed in a stunning neoclassical building designed by Francisco Joaquim Béthencourt da Silva, construction began in 1880, and was originally inaugurated in 1906 as the headquarters for the Commercial Association of Rio de Janeiro. In the 1920s, Banco do Brasil acquired the building, transforming it into its headquarters, later becoming the seat of the Central Branch. In late 1980, Banco do Brasil decided to convert the building into a cultural center, which opened on October 12, 1989. The renovation preserved the columns, ornaments, and marble staircases, while redesigning the dome. Today, the CCBB occupies 15,046 square meters of the 19,243 square meter building, offering spaces for exhibitions, a cinema, video screening room, theaters, an auditorium, and a library. CCBB Rio de Janeiro has become one of Brazil's most important cultural centers. In 2013, it was the 21st most visited art museum in the world, with over 2 million visitors. Visitors can explore a diverse range of artistic expressions, from visual arts to performing arts, and discover the history of Brazil's financial institutions. Check the center's calendar for current exhibitions, film screenings, and performances.
