The final approach to Castelos do Açu involves a steep, 8km (5 mile) hike from the Petrópolis entrance of the Serra dos Órgãos National Park. From the park entrance (elevation 1,125m), follow the well-marked trail towards the mountain shelter at Açu (elevation approximately 2,200m). The trail passes by notable landmarks such as the Véu da Noiva waterfall, Pedra do Queijo viewpoint, and Mirante do Ajax. Be prepared for a challenging ascent with an elevation gain of over 1,000 meters (3,280 feet). Park entrance fee: Approximately R$34 per person per day.
