  • Public Transport

    From Rio de Janeiro, take a bus to Petrópolis from the Rodoviária Novo Rio bus station. Upon arriving at the Petrópolis bus terminal, take a local bus or taxi to Cascatinha. From Terminal Bingen, take bus line 150 to the Corrêas bus station. Then, take bus line 616 Pinheiral or 611 Bonfim. Get off at the final stop and continue on foot up Estrada do Bonfim. Near the Tche bar, take the left fork. About 100 meters before Pousada Paraíso do Açu, take Rua José Pimenta, a narrow dirt road. Cost: Bus fare from Rio to Petrópolis is approximately R$20-R$40. Local bus fare in Petrópolis is around R$4-R$5.

  • Car

    Drive from Rio de Janeiro towards Petrópolis on BR-040. Follow signs for Petrópolis and take the exit toward Estrada do Coração de Maria. Continue until you reach Cascatinha. From there, follow the signs to the Serra dos Órgãos National Park. Park in the designated area near the park entrance. Cost: Tolls on BR-040 can range from R$10-R$20. Parking near the park entrance may cost R$10-R$20 per day.

    Once inside Serra dos Órgãos National Park, the only way to reach Pico do Alcobaça is by hiking. Follow the marked trails, which can be steep in some sections. Pico do Alcobaça, standing at 1,811 meters, is a symbol of mountaineering in Petrópolis, offering adventurers 360º views. Its privileged location allows viewing of the Serra dos Órgãos, the Itaipava mountains, and even Rio de Janeiro. The mountain is also known as "Pedra do Sete" due to a distinct number seven formation on its west wall. The trails to Pico do Alcobaça wind through cultivated fields, Atlantic Forest vegetation, and high-altitude fields adorned with orchids and bromeliads. The most well-known route begins near the Petrópolis entrance of the Serra dos Órgãos National Park, in the Bonfim neighborhood. In the past, the slopes of Pico do Alcobaça and Pedra da Mãe D'Água were part of the Fazenda Alcobaça, owned by the Companhia Petropolitana de Tecidos. In 2008, these slopes were annexed to the Serra do Órgãos National Park, preserving the Atlantic Rainforest ecosystem.
