Discover more about Apple Bay

Apple Bay, situated on the north shore of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, is a captivating destination renowned for its stunning beauty and surf-friendly waves. This small village, approximately 3 miles from Soper's Hole, offers a unique blend of natural charm and local culture. The area's history dates back to the Arawak Indians, who inhabited Tortola around the time of Christ. Evidence of their presence has been found throughout the West End, including Apple Bay. In 1493, Christopher Columbus arrived, followed by pirates, the Dutch, Spanish, and English, with the Dutch West India Company becoming a major force until the 1660s. By 1672, Tortola became a British territory. Today, Apple Bay attracts visitors with its consistent winter swells, making it a popular surfing spot from late December to March. Although not a traditional beach for lounging and swimming, it's a place to watch surfers ride the waves. The area boasts several beachfront restaurants and bars serving local cuisine and refreshing drinks. While some of the area's beloved beach bars were destroyed in the 2017 hurricanes and haven't returned, Apple Bay has recovered and continues to offer a slice of heaven with uncrowded beaches, great food, and sunshine. Nearby attractions include Long Bay, Sage Mountain National Park, and Cane Garden Bay, offering opportunities for exploration and adventure.
