Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start by navigating to the town of Samokov, which is approximately 60 km from Sofia. From Samokov, follow signs towards the Rila Monastery and then proceed towards the Rila Mountain area. Look for signs directing you to the Seven Rila Lakes. Park your car at the designated parking area near the lift station, which is the starting point for your hike to the lakes. Make sure to arrive early as parking can fill up quickly, especially during peak tourist season.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach the Seven Rila Lakes via public transportation, take a bus from Sofia to Samokov. Buses run frequently from the South Bus Station in Sofia to Samokov (approximately 1.5 hours travel). Once in Samokov, you can catch a local bus or taxi to the lift station at Panichishte, the gateway to the lakes. The lift ticket costs 25 BGN for a round trip and 15 BGN for a one-way trip.
