Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from downtown Monterey, head southeast on Alvarado Street towards the intersection with Del Monte Avenue. Continue straight for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with Lighthouse Avenue. Turn left onto Lighthouse Avenue. Follow Lighthouse Avenue for about 0.2 miles and then turn right onto Pacific Street. Continue straight on Pacific Street which will become Wharf Road. At the end, turn left onto Ocean View Boulevard and follow it for about 1 mile until you reach the intersection with Lewis Road. Turn right onto Lewis Road. The Presidio of Monterey will be on your left at 1759 Lewis Rd.

    From downtown Monterey, walk to the nearest bus stop on Alvarado Street. Take the Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) Bus Line 1 towards Salinas. Stay on the bus for approximately 20 minutes, then get off at the stop labeled 'Lewis Road & Presidio of Monterey.' From the bus stop, walk about 0.2 miles south on Lewis Road directly to the entrance of the Presidio, located at 1759 Lewis Rd.

    If you prefer biking, rent a bike from a local shop in downtown Monterey. Start by heading southeast on Alvarado Street and continue to Del Monte Avenue. Turn left onto Del Monte Avenue and then right onto Lighthouse Avenue. Follow Lighthouse Avenue until it turns into Pacific Street. Continue straight, then take Wharf Road until it merges into Ocean View Boulevard. After about a mile, turn right onto Lewis Road. The Presidio of Monterey will be on your left at 1759 Lewis Rd.
