Car
If you are traveling by car from anywhere in the North Coast region, head south on US-101 S. Continue on US-101 S for approximately 120 miles. Take the exit toward I-80 E/San Francisco. Merge onto I-80 E and continue for about 10 miles. Take exit 2C for Fremont St toward Mission St. Merge onto Fremont St and then turn right onto Mission St. The California Historical Society will be on your left at 678 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94105. Look for street parking or use nearby parking garages, which may charge a fee of around $20 for a few hours.

Public Transportation
For public transportation, you can take the SMART train from various stations in the North Coast area to San Rafael. From San Rafael, transfer to the Golden Gate Transit bus (Route 70 or 80) to San Francisco. Once in San Francisco, you can take the Muni Metro (T line) to the Embarcadero station. Finally, walk 12 minutes to the California Historical Society located at 678 Mission St. Be sure to check the schedules for the SMART train and buses, as fares may apply (around $12-$15 total one way).
