Getting There

• Car

  If you're travelling by car, start from the city of Coyhaique, the capital of the Aysén Region. Take Route 7 (Carretera Austral) heading south for about 50 km until you reach the junction with Route X-723. Turn onto Route X-723, which is well-signposted and leads directly to Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez. The drive takes approximately 1 hour and is filled with stunning views of the Patagonian landscape. Once you reach Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez, follow the signs to Salto del Río Ibáñez, which is located about 15 km from the town center. The road is gravel but well-maintained, and you should expect to spend about 20 minutes driving to the waterfall from the town.

• Public Transportation

  For those relying on public transportation, take a bus from Coyhaique to Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez. Several bus companies operate this route, and the journey typically takes about 1.5 hours. Once you arrive in Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez, you can either walk to Salto del Río Ibáñez (approximately 15 km), or you can hire a local taxi or take a shared van, which is a common way to get to the waterfall. Expect to pay around 10,000 CLP for a taxi or around 2,000 CLP per person for a shared van. Make sure to check the return schedules for buses back to Coyhaique, as they may not run frequently.

• Bike

  If you're feeling adventurous, biking is another option. Rent a bike in Coyhaique and take Route 7 to Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez, then continue on to Salto del Río Ibáñez. The total distance is about 65 km from Coyhaique, and it will take roughly 4-5 hours depending on your pace and fitness level. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks, as there are limited services along the way. The scenery is breathtaking, making it a rewarding experience.
