Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving from Ibagué, head northwest on Calle 60 toward Carrera 5. Merge onto the Autopista sur. After approximately 14 km, take the exit toward Neiva / Chaparral and continue on the road for about 30 km until you reach the town of San Sebastián. From San Sebastián, follow the signs for the Vía al Nevado del Tolima. The road will lead you directly towards the entrance to the national park. Note that the last stretch may require a 4x4 vehicle due to rough terrain. Parking is available near the entrance.

  • Public Transportation

    From Ibagué, take a bus from the Terminal de Transportes Ibagué to the town of San Sebastián. The bus ride takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once in San Sebastián, you can hire a local taxi or a 4x4 vehicle for about COP 50,000 to COP 100,000, depending on the negotiation, to take you closer to the Vía al Nevado del Tolima. Make sure to agree on the price beforehand and confirm the return trip as well.

    After reaching the entrance to the national park, you will need to hike to the summit of Nevado del Tolima. The hike is challenging and typically takes about 6 to 8 hours depending on your fitness level. It is advisable to hire a local guide at the entrance for about COP 100,000 to COP 150,000 to ensure safety and orientation during your trek.
