Walking
From downtown Santa Elena, the Monteverde Butterfly Gardens are located approximately 700 meters south of Escuela Cerro Plano. The walk takes around 20 minutes. Head south from the center of town, following the road past the school. The gardens will be on your left.

Taxi
Taxis are readily available in Santa Elena. A short taxi ride from downtown Santa Elena to the Monteverde Butterfly Gardens will take about 5-10 minutes. Ask the driver to take you 700 meters south of Escuela Cerro Plano. Expect to pay around $5 - $10 USD for the ride.

Public Transport
While there isn't a direct bus route that stops right at the entrance, some buses traveling from Guanacaste to Monteverde will drop you off near the Cerro Plano School. From there, it is a 700 meter walk south to the gardens. Bus fare from Guanacaste to Santa Elena is approximately $5 - $8 USD.
