    From downtown Santa Elena, the Monteverde Butterfly Gardens are located approximately 700 meters south of Escuela Cerro Plano. The walk takes around 20 minutes. Head south from the center of town, following the road past the school. The gardens will be on your left.

    While there isn't a direct bus route that stops right at the entrance, some buses traveling from Guanacaste to Monteverde will drop you off near the Cerro Plano School.
