Discover more about Hacienda Monte Claro

Hacienda Monte Claro, a 350-hectare family-owned farm, offers an immersive experience in Costa Rican agriculture and ecology. Located just 10 minutes from downtown Turrialba, the hacienda is part of the Cordillera Central Volcanic Talamanca biological corridor, making it an important site for local wildlife. Several generations ago, around 1860, the Tournon family, originally from France, began working in Costa Rican coffee farming. For over fifteen years, the farm has been dedicated to organic and environmentally friendly operations, developing new production alternatives. The hacienda features a mix of ecosystems and cultivations, including coffee, sugarcane, pastures, and domestic animals. Rivers, forests, and reforestation areas create biological corridors within the property, facilitating the exchange between flora and fauna. Visitors can spot toucans, hawks, hummingbirds, morpho butterflies, sloths, and coyotes. Accommodation options include eco-decks with panoramic views, open rooms protected by mosquito nets, and private bathrooms. Alternatively, guests can stay in the family's guesthouse, which blends 17th-century French furniture with 20th-century Caribbean ornaments. The guesthouse features a flower-filled garden, terraces, and rooms adapted for people with reduced mobility. Hacienda Monte Claro offers a variety of tours, including horseback riding, birdwatching, and organic coffee tours. Adventure activities like canyoning, mountain biking, and rafting are also available.
