Discover more about Antoine Dutot Museum & Gallery

The Antoine Dutot Museum & Gallery offers a journey into the rich history of Delaware Water Gap. Housed in a red brick schoolhouse that served the town's families from 1870 to 1969, the museum is named after Antoine Dutot, who founded Delaware Water Gap in 1793 and built its first resort. The museum's exhibits highlight Delaware Water Gap's past, particularly its time as the second-largest inland resort town in the United States during the late 19th century. Visitors can view resort artifacts, Native American relics, antique firearms, and historical documents. A restored 1930s-era classroom offers a glimpse into the lives of students from that period. The museum also features an art gallery with rotating exhibitions by regional artists. In a separate building, you can see a restored 1926 American LaFrance fire engine, antique horse-drawn sleighs, and farm equipment. The school bell in the cupola is a replica of the Liberty Bell and was purchased by Antoine Dutot. The building itself stands on land that Dutot deeded to the citizens of Dutotsburg, which later became Delaware Water Gap. For more than 50 years, the museum has been a center for the history and culture of the borough and region.
