Getting There

  • Public Bus

    From San Marco, head to the nearest bus stop at San Marco Boulevard and Atlantic Boulevard. Board the JTA Bus Route 10 towards the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) Bus Station. The fare is approximately $1.75. Ride for about 20-25 minutes until you reach the JTA Bus Station. Transfer to Route 1 heading northeast towards the Northside. Stay on this bus for around 30-35 minutes and get off at the stop for Fort Caroline National Memorial. From there, it's a short 10-minute walk to the Timucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer to ride a bicycle, you can rent one from a local bike share service in San Marco. Start your ride on San Marco Boulevard heading north. Continue on this road until you reach the intersection with Atlantic Boulevard. Turn east on Atlantic Boulevard and follow it for approximately 3 miles. You’ll eventually reach Fort Caroline Road. Make a left onto Fort Caroline Road and follow it for about 2 miles until you arrive at the Timucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve. Ensure you have a lock for your bike as well as a helmet for safety.

    For those who enjoy a long walk, you can walk from San Marco directly to the preserve. Starting at San Marco Square, head north on San Marco Boulevard, which turns into Atlantic Boulevard. Continue walking for about 4 miles until you reach Fort Caroline Road. Turn left onto Fort Caroline Road and walk for another 2 miles until you reach the Timucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve. This option will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, so wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated.
