Discover more about Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary

The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, nestled within the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, is more than just a church; it's a profound expression of faith and devotion. Completed in 1899 and consecrated in 1901, this minor basilica is the third church to grace the Sanctuary, following the Crypt and the Upper Basilica. Designed by architect Leopold Hardy, its Neo-Byzantine style creates a unique and awe-inspiring atmosphere. The basilica's exterior is striking, featuring a semicircular white marble facade that depicts Mary handing the Rosary to St. Dominic. The exterior was updated in 2007 to showcase mosaics of the Luminous Mysteries, added by Pope John Paul II. Above, the dome is crowned with a gilded crown and cross, gifted by the people of Ireland. Inside, the basilica continues to inspire. The nave is open and circular, crowned by a dome adorned with sixteen stained-glass windows, each representing a decade of the traditional Rosary. Surrounding the nave are fifteen side chapels, each dedicated to one of the Mysteries of the Rosary and decorated with beautiful mosaics. The basilica's crypt provides a space for quiet reflection and private prayer. The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary is a place of pilgrimage, reflection, and artistic beauty, inviting all who enter to contemplate faith, history, and the enduring power of hope.
