From Heraklion, go to the Central Bus Station. Purchase a ticket to Matala. Buses leave regularly throughout the day (approximately every hour). The journey takes about 1.5 hours. Once you arrive in Matala, follow the signs towards the beach. The caves are located just a short walk from the beach area.

If you are in Chania, take a KTEL bus to Heraklion first. Upon arrival at the Heraklion bus station, transfer to a bus heading to Matala. The total travel time from Chania to Matala will take around 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on connection times.

From Rethymnon, go to the KTEL bus station and buy a ticket to Matala. There are several buses throughout the day, and the travel time is approximately 1.5 hours. After arriving in Matala, head towards the beach where you will find the caves a short distance away.

Once you are in Matala, head towards the waterfront area. Start walking along the beach promenade, and you will see the iconic caves on the cliffs to your left. It’s a pleasant walk, and you'll have beautiful views of the sea along the way.
