Bus
From Heraklion, take the KTEL bus to Matala. The bus departs from the central bus station in Heraklion. The journey takes about 1 hour. Once you arrive in Matala, ask for directions to Martsalo gorge or follow signs that indicate hiking trails. The gorge is approximately a 6 km walk from Matala. You will follow the coastal path, which offers stunning views of the sea, until you reach the entrance of the gorge.

From Chania, take the KTEL bus to Rethymno, then transfer to a bus heading to Matala. After arriving in Matala, you will need to walk the 6 km to Martsalo gorge. Follow the coastal path from Matala, enjoying the scenic views along the way. Upon reaching the gorge, you can explore the area which is known for its natural beauty.

Bus and Taxi
From Agios Nikolaos, take a KTEL bus to Heraklion. From Heraklion, take a bus to Matala. Upon arriving in Matala, you can either walk the 6 km to Martsalo gorge or take a local taxi, which will be quicker. Ensure to negotiate the fare before starting your trip.

If you're in the Faistos area, you can hike directly to Martsalo gorge from nearby villages. Starting from the village of Sivas, follow the well-marked trails leading towards the gorge.
