The Monastery of Agios Georgios Krimnon, also known as Gremnon or Vrahon, is a historic monastery located on the northwestern side of Zakynthos, near the village of Volimes. Founded in 1535, the monastery offers breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea and the famous Navagio Beach, also known as Shipwreck Beach. Throughout its history, the monastery has been home to several notable ecclesiastical figures, including Agios Gerasimos, the protector of Kefalonia, who resided here from 1549 to 1554. Another important religious figure, monk Pahomios Roussanos (1508-1553), also called Zakynthos home. The monastery was known for its archive and library, which once housed the Nannian Codes, now located in the Marcian Library of Venice. The monastery's architecture includes a stone watchtower, constructed in 1561 to defend against pirate attacks. Visitors can explore the courtyard, where the monks' living quarters are located to the left, the middle tower in the center, and a small church to the right. Although the original murals, including one painted by Loukas Romanos in 1606, have been destroyed, the rebuilt monastery retains its Venetian style. The monastery has undergone restoration and now welcomes visitors to explore its grounds.
