Begin your journey at the center of Blönduós, near the main church, which is a recognizable landmark. From the church, head east along the main road, which is also Road 1 (the Ring Road). Follow this road for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the bridge over the Blanda River. Cross the bridge, and once you are on the other side, look for a walking path that leads towards the riverbank. This path will take you directly to Hrútey Island, which is just a short distance from the riverbank. Keep an eye out for signs directing you towards the island.

If you have access to a bicycle, start from the center of Blönduós and head east along the main road (Road 1). After about 1.5 kilometers, you will reach the Blanda River. There is a bike path that runs alongside the river. Continue following this path until you reach the bridge. Cross the bridge, and once you’ve crossed, look for a path that leads to the island. The total biking distance is approximately 3 kilometers round trip, making it a pleasant ride.
