Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Borgarnes, head towards the Borgarnes Church (Borgarneskirkja). Exit the church grounds and follow the main road, Route 1, heading east. Continue walking for approximately 50 meters until you reach the pedestrian path. Follow this path along the coastline until you reach the bus station at Borgarnes. Here, you can take a bus to Reykjavík. The bus will take you directly to the National Museum of Iceland, located at Suðurgata 41. The museum is a short walk from the bus stop in Reykjavík.

    From Borgarnes, locate the local bus station which is situated near the center of town. Take the bus heading towards Reykjavík. The journey usually takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Once you arrive in Reykjavík, disembark at the main bus terminal, BSI. From BSI, you can either walk or take a local bus (Line 14 or 1) to the National Museum of Iceland at Suðurgata 41. If walking, head southeast on Hringbraut, then turn left onto Suðurgata. The museum will be on your left.
