Experience Hafur

Getting There

  • Car

    If you're driving, make your way to the main road (Route 1) that circles Iceland. From there, take Route 50 towards the town of Húsafell. Continue on Route 50 until you reach the junction with Route 518, which leads to Langjökull Glacier. Follow Route 518 for about 20 km until you reach the Langjökull Glacier area. Look for signs indicating Hafur; the peak is located at coordinates 64.9875, -21.5066666. Park in designated areas near the base of the mountain and prepare for a hike.

  • Public Transportation

    For those using public transport, take a bus from Reykjavík to Húsafell. The bus service is operated by Strætó and schedules can be found on their website. Once in Húsafell, you will need to arrange for a taxi or a local tour operator to take you to the Langjökull Glacier area. Note that public transport may not run frequently, so check the schedule in advance and plan accordingly. From there, similar to driving, you would need to hike to Hafur, as direct public transport does not go to the peak.

  • Hiking

    Once you arrive at Langjökull Glacier, either by car or via taxi from Húsafell, you will need to hike to Hafur.
