The preserve features hiking trails that wind through restored oak savanna and unique rock outcroppings, leading to panoramic views of Galena, the Mississippi River, and even distant views of Iowa and Wisconsin.At the heart of the preserve is the McKeague Family council ring, a central gathering area equipped with viewing scopes to enhance the experience. The Spiroff Overlook, opened in 2021, provides additional stunning views from the north end of the preserve. Visitors can explore the trails, enjoy birdwatching, or have a picnic while taking in the scenery.Horseshoe Mound is thought to have been an ancient ceremonial site used by indigenous peoples. Informative signs along the trails offer insights into the area's cultural history. The preserve is open year-round from dawn until dusk, providing ample opportunity to connect with nature and explore the rich heritage of the region.

Turn right onto N Blackjack Rd; the preserve is about 0.7 miles on your left at 1679 N Blackjack Rd. Parking is available on-site, and there is no entry fee.
