Make sure to ask the bus driver to drop you off at Besakih Temple, which is the closest drop-off point to Gunung Agung. The journey takes around 2-3 hours. Once you arrive at Besakih Temple, you can hire a local guide or take a short walk to the foot of the mountain. Follow the signs or ask locals for directions to the starting point of the trek.

If you're feeling adventurous, rent a bicycle from Ubud or Candidasa. Start your journey early in the morning to avoid the midday heat. The distance from Ubud to Besakih is about 30 kilometers and can take 2-4 hours depending on your cycling speed. Once you reach Besakih Temple, you can ask locals for the best route to the trekking path up Gunung Agung.
