Subway
Start by finding the nearest subway station, Hakata Station, which is a major hub in Fukuoka. From Hakata Station, take the Kuko Line (Airport Line) towards Meinohama. Get off at the next stop, Tenjin Station. At Tenjin Station, transfer to the Nishitetsu bus line. Look for bus number 100 or 200, which will take you directly towards Sumiyoshi Jinja. After about 10 minutes on the bus, get off at the Sumiyoshi Shrine stop. The shrine is just a short walk from the bus stop.
Bus
If you are near Tenjin area, head to the Tenjin Bus Center. From there, board the Nishitetsu bus line, specifically bus number 100 or 200, which goes towards Sumiyoshi. The trip will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Get off at the Sumiyoshi Shrine bus stop, and you will find Sumiyoshi Jinja just a short stroll away.
Walking
If you are already in the Hakata Ward area, you can walk to Sumiyoshi Jinja. Head towards the main road called Chuo-dori, and walk north for about 1.5 kilometers. Look for signs that say 'Sumiyoshi Jinja.' The shrine entrance will be on your left side. Make sure to enjoy the sights along the way!
Taxi
You can easily catch a taxi from any location in Fukuoka. Just tell the driver 'Sumiyoshi Jinja' or show them the address: 3 Chome-1-51 Sumiyoshi, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka. The ride will take approximately 10 minutes depending on traffic. It's a convenient option if you are carrying luggage or prefer a direct route.
