Getting There

  • Bus

    If you are near Kyoto Station, take the Kyoto City Bus 50 or 101. Get off at Nijojo-mae bus stop. From there, Nijō Castle is just a short 5-minute walk. Head east on Nijo-dori Street, and you will see the entrance to the castle on your right.

  • Subway

    From Kyoto Station, take the Karasuma Subway Line towards Kokusaikaikan. Transfer at Karasuma Oike Station to the Tozai Line and head towards Uzumasa Tenjingawa Station. Get off at Nijojo-mae Station. Exit the station, and you will find Nijō Castle a 10-minute walk to the west. Follow the signs leading you to the castle.

    If you are staying in the central area of Kyoto, you can walk to Nijō Castle. From Shijo-dori, head north on Karasuma-dori. Continue for about 15 minutes until you reach Nijo-dori. Turn left and walk for another 5 minutes; the castle entrance will be on your left at 541 Nijojocho.

    If you prefer a more direct option, you can take a taxi. Simply tell the driver 'Nijō Castle' or show them the address: 541 Nijojocho, Nakagyo Ward. The ride from most central locations in Kyoto should take around 10-15 minutes, depending on traffic.
