Getting There

  • Walking

    If you're starting from Kyoto Station, exit the station and head towards the Karasuma Line subway entrance. Take the Karasuma Line subway to Shijo Station (about 4 minutes). Once you arrive at Shijo Station, exit via the Karasuma Exit. From there, walk straight along Shijo Street until you reach the intersection with Kamo River. Turn left and follow the riverbank, passing the beautiful scenery. After about a 10-minute walk, you will see Pontocho Alley on your right. Enter the alley and continue walking until you reach Pontocho Kaburenjo at 130 Hashishitacho.

  • Public Transportation

    From Gion, you can easily reach Pontocho Kaburenjo by taking a bus. Walk to the nearest bus stop and catch bus number 100 or 206. Ride the bus for about 5-10 minutes and get off at the Shijo Kawaramachi stop. From the bus stop, walk toward the Kamo River. Cross the road to reach the riverbank, and then walk north along the river until you find Pontocho Alley on your left. Walk down the alley, and you will arrive at Pontocho Kaburenjo at 130 Hashishitacho.

    If you are at Nijo Castle, exit the castle grounds and head south to the nearest subway station, Nijojo-mae Station. Take the Tozai Line subway to Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station (8 minutes). Enter the alley and continue until you reach Pontocho Kaburenjo at 130 Hashishitacho.
