Walking
If you are in Gion, start by heading north on Hanamikoji Street. You will pass by traditional wooden machiya houses and may see geiko or maiko (geisha apprentices) walking to their appointments. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Shijo Avenue. Turn left onto Shijo Avenue and walk for about 5 minutes. You will see the entrance to Yasaka Jinja on your right, marked by its iconic vermilion gates.
