Kumamoto Castle Park: A Majestic Blend of Nature and History

Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving to Kumamoto Castle Park (Ninomaru Hiroba), take the Kyushu Expressway and exit at Kumamoto IC. From the exit, follow signs for Kumamoto City. Continue on Route 57 until you reach the city center, then follow signs to Kumamoto Castle. There is parking available near the castle area, but be aware that there may be a parking fee which can range from 500 to 1000 yen depending on the duration of your stay.

• Train

  For those using public transportation, take the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Kumamoto Station from your starting location in Kyushu. Upon arriving at Kumamoto Station, you can take the tram (Kumamoto City Tram) from the station. Board the tram on the 'A' line towards 'Kengun' and get off at the 'Kumamotojo-mae' station. The tram ride will cost around 200 yen. From the tram stop, it’s a short 10-minute walk to Kumamoto Castle Park (Ninomaru Hiroba). Follow the signs towards the castle.

• Bus

  Alternatively, you can take a highway bus to Kumamoto from various locations in Kyushu. Once you arrive at Kumamoto Bus Terminal, transfer to a local bus heading to Kumamoto Castle. The bus ride typically costs around 250 yen and takes approximately 15 minutes. Disembark at the Kumamoto Castle bus stop, and the park is just a few minutes' walk from there.

• Walking

  If you're already in the vicinity of Kumamoto City, you can simply walk to Kumamoto Castle Park (Ninomaru Hiroba). The park is located at 2-1 Ninomaru, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto, 860-0008, which is easily accessible from various points in the city. Just follow the signs for Kumamoto Castle, and you will find the park adjacent to the castle grounds.
