The Kokushikan Site, or Ki no Tsurayuki Residence Site, marks the location where Ki no Tsurayuki, a celebrated poet and author of the Tosa Diary, resided during his time as a provincial governor (kokushi) in Tosa Province. Ki no Tsurayuki was the 48th governor. This peaceful site provides a window into the life and times of one of Japan's most influential literary figures. The site itself has a small park with several stone monuments, including俳句 (haiku) by Takahama Kyoshi, paying homage to Ki no Tsurayuki and his literary contributions. Adjacent to the site is the Kokinshu Garden, a garden featuring 32 waka poems displayed among the plants, creating a tranquil and reflective space inspired by the Heian period. A stone monument with the character 'Tsuki' (moon), said to have been written by Tsurayuki himself, can also be found. Visitors can wander through the grounds, appreciating the historical significance and the beauty of the surrounding landscape. The site offers a chance to connect with Japanese literary history and enjoy a moment of quiet contemplation. The area to the south of the residence is the Tosa Provincial Office Site.
