Discover more about Takayama Inari Shrine

Takayama Inari Shrine, nestled in the city of Tsugaru in Aomori Prefecture, is a captivating Shinto shrine dedicated to Inari Ōkami, the kami of agriculture, industry, prosperity, and maritime safety. Founded in the late 17th century, the shrine has become a significant spiritual site in northern Japan. The shrine's most iconic feature is the Senbon-Torii, a path lined with over 200 vibrant red torii gates that wind their way up the hillside. Each gate has been donated by individuals and businesses seeking blessings for good harvest, business success, and safety at sea. Walking through this tunnel of torii is a unique and awe-inspiring experience, creating a sense of connection between the human and divine realms. In addition to the Senbon-Torii, the shrine grounds feature various buildings, fox statues (the messengers of Inari), and a three-story observation tower offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and the Sea of Japan. The shrine's Japanese garden adds seasonal color with cherry blossoms in spring, hydrangeas in early summer and colorful leaves in the fall. While the shrine is a bit remote, it is considered a 'power spot' where visitors can receive healing energy and have their wishes granted.
