Discover more about Zou-no-hana Park

Zou-no-hana Park, whose name translates to Elephant's Nose Park, is a unique and historically significant green space in Yokohama. Opened in 2009 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Port of Yokohama, the park sits on the very spot where Commodore Matthew C. Perry first disembarked during his second visit to Japan in 1854, an event that led to the opening of Yokohama as a port city. The park's design incorporates elements of its past, including reproductions of Meiji-era breakwaters. These structures, which gradually changed shape over the years, eventually resembled an elephant's trunk, hence the park's name. Today, Zou-no-hana Park features a grassy slope overlooking the water, walking paths, and a paved area that often hosts exhibitions and events. Zou-no-hana Terrace, located within the park, serves as a rest area and art space, hosting a variety of cultural programs. The park also offers stunning views of the harbor, including the Osanbashi International Passenger Boat Terminal and the Minato Mirai skyline. At night, the park transforms into a charming spectacle of light, with colorful panels illuminating the waterfront.
