Odaiba's Little Liberty
A symbol of friendship between France and Japan, Odaiba's Statue of Liberty offers a unique Tokyo experience with the iconic Rainbow Bridge.
Located in Odaiba, Tokyo, the Statue of Liberty is a smaller replica of the famous New York landmark. This statue commemorates the friendship between France and Japan. Originally, a French Statue of Liberty was temporarily installed in Odaiba from 1998 to 1999 as part of the “Year of France in Japan”. The temporary statue was so well-received that a permanent replica was erected in 2000 with official permission from the city of Paris. The Odaiba Statue of Liberty stands at 12.25 meters (approximately 40 feet) tall, about 1/7th the size of its New York counterpart. The statue is in Odaiba Seaside Park, facing the station and backing the Rainbow Bridge. The best spot for photos is the Skywalk promenade connecting Odaiba Marine Park and Symbol Promenade Park. The statue is particularly striking at night when the Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo skyline are illuminated. Odaiba itself is a popular tourist hub with various attractions. The island features shopping malls, restaurants, museums, and entertainment facilities.
