Discover more about Hängebrücke über die Argen

Spanning the Argen River between Kressbronn and Langenargen, the Hängebrücke über die Argen is a testament to late 19th-century engineering. Constructed between 1896 and 1897, under the reign of King Wilhelm II of Württemberg, the bridge addressed the need for a direct connection between the two towns, eliminating a previously necessary two-hour detour. The bridge is a cable suspension bridge with a span of 72 meters and a width of 6.2 meters. Its four pylons, each 12 meters high, are anchored with concrete. The bridge's construction, which cost 13,681 marks, was showcased at the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris. While it sustained minor damage during a WWII air raid in 1944, it was repaired and later designated as a protected cultural monument in 1982. Today, the bridge is open only to pedestrians and cyclists, offering picturesque views of the Argen River and the surrounding Bodensee area.
