Discover more about The Knights Of Malta

The Knights of Malta museum, nestled within the historic city of Mdina, offers visitors a captivating journey into the world of the Knights of St. John, also known as the Knights Hospitaller. Housed in Casa Magazzini, a building constructed by the Knights themselves as an ammunition depot, the museum brings history to life through a series of realistically captured scenes. The museum utilizes a variety of techniques to immerse visitors in the Knights' era. Life-size figures, enhanced by special effects and lighting, depict key moments in the Knights' history, from their arrival in Malta in 1530 to their eventual departure in 1798. A 3D audio-visual show further enhances the experience, providing an engaging glimpse into the past. Visitors can explore the visual three-dimensional chronicle while a full narration in thirteen languages provides the rest of the historical detail. The Knights of Malta were a religious and military order that played a significant role in Malta's history. Originally tasked with caring for sick and injured pilgrims in the Holy Land, the Knights later became a powerful force in the Mediterranean, defending Malta against invasion and leaving a lasting architectural and cultural legacy. The museum highlights the Knights' military achievements, their contributions to medicine, and their artistic patronage. Visitors can see them in conference with each other or alongside ordinary folks, and admire them in dramatic battle scenes or coping with disasters like the 1693 earthquake in Mdina. Feel their compassion as they offer their services to the sick in the order's hospital. Visitors should allow 20-45 minutes to visit the whole site. The museum is spread out over 3 floors, and there are no lifts available.
