Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from the center of Great Barrington, take Main Street (Route 7) north towards Stockbridge. After about 2 miles, turn right onto Route 23. Continue on Route 23 for approximately 3 miles until you reach the entrance to Beartown State Forest on your left. Park in the designated parking area. The Benedict Pond Loop trailhead is accessible from the parking lot.

• Public Transportation

  Take the Peter Pan Bus Lines from Boston or New York City to Great Barrington. Once you arrive at the Great Barrington bus station, you can take a local taxi service to Beartown State Forest. The taxi ride will take about 15 minutes and cost approximately $20. Inform the driver you want to go to Beartown State Forest, where you can find the parking area for the Benedict Pond Loop.

• Biking

  For those who enjoy biking, you can rent a bicycle in Great Barrington. Head north on Main Street, then turn onto Route 23. The ride to Beartown State Forest is approximately 5 miles and will take about 30-40 minutes. Make sure to wear a helmet and be cautious of traffic on the roads. Once you arrive, you can lock your bike at the bike rack near the parking area.

• Walking

  If you are staying nearby and prefer to walk, you can take the walking path from the center of Great Barrington. Head north along Route 7 for about 2 miles until you reach Route 23. Then, continue along Route 23 for another 3 miles to reach the entrance of Beartown State Forest. This walk is approximately 5 miles one way, so prepare for a total of 10 miles round trip.
