Getting There

  • Collectivo

    From Playa del Carmen, head to the nearest collectivo station, which is located on 12th Street (Calle 12) between 15th and 20th Avenues. Look for the vans that have 'Akumal' or 'Tulum' displayed on them. Hop on a collectivo that is heading towards Akumal. The fare is usually around 40 pesos and they depart frequently. After about 30 minutes, ask the driver to drop you off at the entrance to Cenote Yal-ku, which is located on the right side of the highway. The cenote is a short walk from where the collectivo stops.

  • Taxi

    To take a taxi, you can either hail one on the street or ask your hotel to call one for you. Make sure to agree on a fare before getting in, as taxis in Playa del Carmen do not have meters. The ride to Cenote Yal-ku from Playa del Carmen will take approximately 30-40 minutes and should cost around 300-400 pesos. The driver will know where to take you, just mention 'Cenote Yal-ku'.

  • Bicycle

    For the more adventurous, renting a bicycle is a great way to reach Cenote Yal-ku. You can rent a bike from various shops in Playa del Carmen. Once you have your bike, head south on the main highway (Carretera Federal 307). It’s about a 20 km ride, so be prepared for a moderate workout. Keep an eye out for signage directing you to Akumal. After about an hour of cycling, you will find Cenote Yal-ku on your right.
