Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Lake Placid, head east on Main Street towards the intersection with NY-86. Continue straight for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with Route 73. Turn left onto Route 73 and walk for approximately 2 miles. You'll pass by some beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. After 2 miles, look for a sign for the High Peaks Wilderness area on your right. Follow this path into the wilderness area.

  • Biking

    Rent a bike from one of the local shops in Lake Placid. Start your ride from Main Street, heading east towards NY-86. Continue on NY-86 until you reach Route 73. Turn left on Route 73 and bike for about 2 miles. Watch for the sign indicating the entrance to High Peaks Wilderness on your right. The ride is scenic, so take your time and enjoy the views!

  • Public Transportation

    Check the local bus schedule for the Lake Placid Shuttle Service. Board the shuttle heading towards Keene Valley. Inform the driver that you are going to High Peaks Wilderness. The shuttle will drop you off at a convenient stop near the entrance to the wilderness area, which is about 2 miles from the center of Lake Placid. Be sure to check the schedule for return times!
