Follow NY-73 for about 7 miles until you reach the parking area at the Garden Trailhead. This trailhead is located at approximately 44.1070° N, 73.9354° W. Parking here is usually free, but be sure to arrive early as it can fill up quickly during peak hiking season.

From the Garden Trailhead, take the Van Hoevenberg Trail towards Mount Marcy. The hike to Lake Tear of the Clouds is about 3.5 miles one way and is moderately strenuous. The trail is well-marked, but be prepared for rocky terrain and elevation gain. Follow the trail signs leading to Lake Tear of the Clouds. The lake will be a beautiful sight and a great spot to rest before continuing your journey to Mount Marcy if desired.
