Car
If you're driving from Long Island, take the Long Island Expressway (I-495) towards New York City. Merge onto the Queens Midtown Tunnel (toll required) to enter Manhattan. Once in Manhattan, follow signs for FDR Drive South. Exit at the Manhattan Bridge and follow the signs to Brooklyn. Take the exit for the Battery Park area. Park at one of the nearby parking garages (note: parking fees apply). From there, walk to Battery Park, where you can catch a ferry to Ellis Island.

Public Transportation (Train and Ferry)
Start by taking the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) from any station on Long Island to Penn Station in Manhattan. Once at Penn Station, transfer to the subway and take the 1 train (red line) downtown to South Ferry station. Exit the subway and walk to Battery Park. From Battery Park, board the ferry to Ellis Island. Note that there is a fee for the ferry service.

Public Transportation (Bus and Ferry)
Take a Suffolk County Transit or Nassau Inter-County Express bus to a LIRR station, and then take the LIRR to Penn Station. From there, take the subway (1 train) to South Ferry station. Walk to Battery Park and board the ferry to Ellis Island. Make sure to check the bus fare and LIRR ticket prices before your journey.

If you're near New Jersey, you can take a NJ Transit train to Hoboken or Jersey City. From there, you can catch a ferry directly to Ellis Island. Make sure to check the ferry schedule and ticket prices in advance.
