    Start at the Poughkeepsie Metro-North train station. Exit the station and head northwest on Main St towards the Hudson River. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with Washington St. Turn left onto Washington St and walk until you reach the pedestrian bridge over the Hudson River. Cross the bridge and enjoy the views of the river. After crossing, you will be in Highland. Continue straight to the first traffic light and turn right onto Route 9W. Walk north along Route 9W for about 3 miles, following the sidewalk. Once you reach the intersection with Vanderbilt Park Rd, turn left. The Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site will be on your right at 119 Vanderbilt Park Rd.

    If you have access to a bicycle, start at the Poughkeepsie Metro-North train station. Head west on Main St, then take a left onto Washington St. Follow Washington St to the pedestrian bridge and cross it. Upon reaching Highland, continue to Route 9W and turn right.
