Subway
From the White Plains Metro-North station, take the Harlem Line train towards Grand Central Terminal. You will need to disembark at the 125th Street station, which is approximately a 25-minute ride. Once at 125th Street, transfer to the A subway line towards Far Rockaway. Ride the A line to the Howard Beach station and transfer to the AirTrain JFK. Take the AirTrain to the Jamaica station, where you can catch the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to Penn Station in Manhattan. From Penn Station, take the 1 subway line downtown to South Ferry. From South Ferry, you will find the ferry terminal for the Statue Cruises, which provides transportation to Ellis Island. Be sure to purchase your tickets for the ferry in advance.

From the White Plains bus terminal, take the Bee-Line Bus #60 towards the Bronx. This route will take you to the Wakefield-241st Street subway station. From there, take the 2 subway line towards Flatbush Avenue. You will need to transfer to the 1 subway line at the 42nd Street-Times Square station, heading downtown. Ride the 1 line to the South Ferry station, where you will catch the ferry to Ellis Island. Make sure to check the bus schedules in advance to plan your trip.

If you are near the downtown area of White Plains, start at the Galleria Mall and head south on Main Street. Continue straight until you reach the White Plains Metro-North station. From there, follow the subway instructions provided above. Walking may not be the most efficient way to reach Ellis Island, but it can be a pleasant way to explore the local shops and cafes before heading to the subway station.
