From White Plains Metro-North train station, take the Hudson Line train towards Grand Central Terminal. Get off at the 42nd Street–Grand Central station. Once you exit, follow signs to the 42nd Street subway station and take the 7 train towards Flushing. Get off at the 34th Street–Hudson Yards station. From there, transfer to the A, C, E trains and take the E train towards World Trade Center. Get off at the 14th Street station. Walk towards 9th Avenue, then head south until you reach Gansevoort Street. Turn right onto Gansevoort Street and the Whitney Museum of American Art will be on your left.

From the White Plains bus terminal, take the BxM4C express bus towards Manhattan. Get off at the stop at West 42nd Street and 8th Avenue. From there, walk south on 8th Avenue to Gansevoort Street. Turn left onto Gansevoort Street and continue walking until you reach the Whitney Museum of American Art on your left.

If you're in the downtown area of White Plains, you can walk to the White Plains Metro-North train station.
