From Masterton, head to the Masterton Bus Terminal located at 2 Queen Street. Catch the bus heading to Upper Hutt. The journey takes approximately 1 hour. Once you arrive at Upper Hutt Station, transfer to the local bus number 110 towards Stokes Valley. After about 15 minutes, get off at the 'Akatarawa Road' stop. From the bus stop, walk along Akatarawa Road for about 1.2 kilometers. Staglands Wildlife Reserve & Café will be on your left at 2362 Akatarawa Road.

If you're feeling adventurous, you can rent a bike from a local rental shop in Masterton. Head southeast on Queen Street towards the Masterton District Council building, then take the cycle path along the river towards Upper Hutt. Follow the signs for Akatarawa Road. The ride is approximately 22 kilometers and will take about 1.5 hours. Upon reaching 2362 Akatarawa Road, you will find Staglands Wildlife Reserve & Café.

The total distance is about 22 kilometers and will take approximately 5 hours.
