If you're traveling by car, start by getting onto State Highway 1 (SH1) towards Wellington. From Palmerston North or any location in Manawatu-Wanganui, follow signs toward Wellington. Continue on SH1 until you reach Waikanae. Take the exit towards Waikanae Beach and follow Ngā Manu Reserve Road. The Nga Manu Nature Reserve will be located on your left at 74 Ngā Manu Reserve Road. There is onsite parking available. Check for any parking fees that may apply.

For those using public transportation, take a bus from Palmerston North or any other major city in the Manawatu-Wanganui region to Wellington. From Wellington, catch a train from Wellington Railway Station to Waikanae Station (make sure to check the train timetable for service availability). Once you arrive at Waikanae Station, the Nga Manu Nature Reserve is about a 25-minute walk. Head southeast on Nga Manu Reserve Road until you reach the reserve at 74 Ngā Manu Reserve Road. Alternatively, you can take a local bus from Waikanae Station to a stop closer to the reserve if available. Be sure to check local bus schedules for any costs and routes.
