Car
From the Milford Sound Visitor Centre, take the Milford Road (State Highway 94) towards Te Anau. Drive for about 5 kilometers until you reach the Gertrude Saddle car park, which will be on your left. The car park is the starting point for the hiking trail to Gertrude Saddle. Make sure to check the weather conditions before heading out, as the trail can be challenging.

If you are using public transportation, take a bus from Te Anau to Milford Sound. The bus will drop you off at the Milford Sound Visitor Centre. From there, you can either walk or take a taxi to the Gertrude Saddle car park, which is approximately 5 kilometers away along the Milford Road (State Highway 94). Make sure to plan your return travel accordingly, as bus services may have set schedules.
