Car
If you are driving, start by heading southeast on State Highway 1 from Invercargill. Continue on SH1 for approximately 50 km until you reach the town of Gore. At Gore, follow the signs to State Highway 94. Turn onto SH94 and continue for about 40 km. You will see the 1855 Lookout on your right side, approximately 2 km before reaching the town of Te Anau. Look for the lookout signs for easy identification.

To reach 1855 Lookout using public transportation, you can take a bus from Invercargill to Te Anau. Several bus companies operate this route, and the journey takes about 2.5 hours. Once you arrive in Te Anau, you will need to take a taxi or ride-share service to cover the last 10 km to the lookout, as there are no public transport services directly to the lookout.
