If you are driving, head towards Milford Sound from Queenstown or Te Anau. From Te Anau, take the Milford Road (State Highway 94) which is a scenic drive that takes approximately 2 hours. Once you reach Milford Sound, continue on the Milford Sound Highway until you reach the car park for the Gertrude Saddle Track, which is about 10 km from the Milford Sound area. The car park is well signposted.

If you are using public transportation, you can take a bus from Te Anau to Milford Sound. Several companies operate this service, and the journey takes around 2.5 hours. Once you arrive in Milford Sound, you will need to either walk (around 10 km) or arrange for a taxi to take you to the car park for the Gertrude Saddle Track.
