Car
If you are driving, head towards Milford Sound from Queenstown or Te Anau. From Te Anau, take the Milford Road (State Highway 94) which is a scenic drive that takes approximately 2 hours. Once you reach Milford Sound, continue on the Milford Sound Highway until you reach the car park for the Gertrude Saddle Track, which is about 10 km from the Milford Sound area. The car park is well signposted.

Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, you can take a bus from Te Anau to Milford Sound. Several companies operate this service, and the journey takes around 2.5 hours. Once you arrive in Milford Sound, you will need to either walk (around 10 km) or arrange for a taxi to take you to the car park for the Gertrude Saddle Track. Please check with local bus companies for the latest schedules and fares.

After parking your car or being dropped off at the Gertrude Saddle Track car park, follow the marked trail that begins at the car park. The hike to Gertrude Valley Lookout is approximately a 4-5 hour round trip. Ensure you have appropriate hiking gear, food, and water, and check the weather conditions before you start your hike.
