Car
If you are driving, start from the main Milford Sound parking area located on Milford Sound Highway, Southland 9679. From the parking area, head towards the Milford Sound Visitor Centre. Make sure to have a parking spot as it can fill up quickly, especially during peak tourist seasons. Once you have parked, walk towards the start of the Gertrude Saddle Track, which is located near the visitor centre. The track is well-marked and will lead you through stunning landscapes as you make your way towards Gertrude Valley Lookout.

If you are using public transport, take a bus from Te Anau to Milford Sound. The bus will drop you off at the Milford Sound Visitor Centre. Once you arrive, follow the signs to the Gertrude Saddle Track, which is situated near the visitor centre. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they may vary based on the season. The track will take you to the lookout, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the valley.
