Walking
If you are starting from the Nelson city centre, head north on Trafalgar Street towards the Maitai River. Continue straight as Trafalgar Street turns into Milton Street. Follow Milton Street until you reach the intersection with Collingwood Street. Turn left onto Collingwood Street and continue until you reach the Maitai River. Cross the bridge over the river and keep walking along the river pathway. This pathway will lead you up towards the Centre of New Zealand Monument, which is located in the park area on your right.

Public Transport
From the Nelson city centre, you can catch the local bus service that goes towards the Maitai area. Look for the bus stop near the Nelson i-SITE Visitor Centre on Trafalgar Street. Take the bus that goes towards Maitai Valley. Inform the driver you want to get off at the Centre of New Zealand stop. Once you disembark, walk up the path towards the monument which is a short walk from the bus stop.

If you prefer to bike, you can rent a bike in Nelson city. Head north from the city centre along Trafalgar Street, then take a left onto Milton Street. Continue until you reach the Maitai River. Follow the river pathways that are bike-friendly, which will take you directly to the Centre of New Zealand Monument. The bike ride offers a scenic route, and you can enjoy the beautiful views of the river and surrounding nature.
